This is a new mesh, and means that it's a brand new self contained object that usually does not require a specific Expansion pack (although this is possible depending on the type). It may have Recolours hosted on MTS - check below the description for more information.
Picked Upload! This is a picked upload! It showcases some of the best talent and creativity available on MTS and in the community.
This is a big one. And I want to say soooo much, but I promise to try and keep it short and sweet.

This is a modular bookcase set, with what I hope you agree is a bit more freedom - in both design options and accessibility.

I've been working on these off and on since February (most of that time was spent on wild goose chases caused by my own typographical mistakes). I had plans for a few more bells and whistles when I first started, but limitations in the game and in my modding skills conspired to produce this more realistic version. (Rather than go on and on here about all the things I had planned, let's try to stay focused on the features that actually made it into the set.)

First thing I wanted was a bookshelf that could be accessed from both sides. I knew this was possible, because I have NixNivis' TSM Book Stacks in one of my "castley" lots. After a lot of screwups and wrong turns, I finally got them to work:

Originally, I thought I would make a set of bookcases with double and mirrored book meshes, another identical set without book meshes but added deco slots, then mix and match them.
Anyway, long story short, without the pioneering efforts and influence of Leefish, no telling how big a mess I would have made of this project.

I was having some trouble with Sims walking through the 45テつー extensions, even despite a lot of effort spent redrawing the CRES footprints, so the corner deco pieces were made to stop this. They basically melded into the extended mesh and provided an "invisible" block to walking Sims. Eventually I fixed this problem in the Init BHAV, but kept the pieces in because they allowed for some pretty interesting shapes that I didn't initially anticipate being possible. So a word of caution: Be careful when placing the corners and endcaps. They are fully intersectable with other objects, and can actually "disappear" inside your shelf mesh (or even other nearby furniture).

To give an illusion of seamlessness, I kind of "standardized" the support poles into 90テつー and 45テつー pairs, where they overlap the poles of the adjoining section instead of trying to draw half-poles that met up with another half-pole and hopefully made a whole with no perceptible gap. The drawback is, there's half a pole hanging past the end of any given section that doesn't join up with another section.

So I added endcaps to cover the ends, or to use as dividers/supports in place of the support poles.

Almost as much as I like Curvy furniture, I like to have LotsaSlots. So, with a few exceptions of smaller sections, each section has 27 deco slots - Eight per shelf (three facing each side, and two in the center) and three centered slots on the top. Corners also have 4 slots, but they can be hard to access sometimes. It's possible to have 2 or 4 (maybe even 6 &8?) corners in the same game tile. Pressing the "M" key can cycle through one corner section, then onto another, but often one or more of the units in the tile gets skipped. You can place some objects in the slots of a unit you don't want to use, then remove them once you have placed the deco on the slot you actually want to use, OR (easier) just move the corner unit you want to decorate a few tiles away from the rest of your shelf sections, place the deco object, then slide the section back into your shelving configuration.

There are seven(7) files attached. You don't need all of them.
What you do need is:
A. one "CurvyBookcase" file (either FULL, PETS-FT, or pre-PETS, according to your Sims 2 game configuration)
and B. the CurvyBookcase-Deco file.
The Deco objects are all BG, and will work the same in all game configurations. The sections in the main file variants all use the same GUIDs, so you can only place one version in your downloads folder at a time.

Optional: Collections folders, BibliophileBookSet, dARE-RC[MaxLord]-CurvyBookcase-MainLeft

[header2]Extras[/header2]

Books

The books are sections cut out from the book mesh from the Bibliophile bookcase. I did a few changes to the UV mapping to make them look a bit more realistic, but otherwise they are all EAxis. They are slaved to the Bibliophile bookcase in the basegame, so if you want to recolor them you must recolor the EAxis package, not mine. I make no claim on these meshes, so use and abuse them as you wish. These gorgeous Baroque gold ceiling tiles are made by Red Sonja and can be found here . (I think that may be her autobiography on the left shelf near the top...)

Recolors
This recolor package is totally optional. I mostly made them for myself, to match an office suite I've been working on forever. I will warn you that mileage may vary with some of the textures in this package - especially with the transparent ones, which were made for a tabletop from the office suite and don't really work anywhere else except in small doses. The wood textures, however, look great with anything.

Known Issues

The 45テつー parts that extend beyond any particular section's tile are also object-intersectable, although not intersectable with Sims. This means that they can still clip through walls and other nearby objects. Except for the straight pieces, and maybe the 90テつー edged tiles, I wouldn't recommend setting the Curvilinear Librarium up against a wall.

If you are playing a Basegame, or any other pre-PETS Sims 2 setup, you MUST use the files marked "[pre-PETS]." Files from [PETs-FT] or [FULL] will definitely crash your game.

There are some shading issues where some of the sections join each other. Nothing major, just not perfect . I spent quite a lot of time this week remeshing the worst offenders, with pretty good results. There are still a few irregularities left that occur where the meshes overlap. Since very few of these sections are meshed exactly the same at a given joint, I'm afraid making them truly seamless is just beyond my ken at this time.

All textures used in the mesh files are EAxis, except the white and black pole recolors, created in GIMP 2.8 from EAxis gold texture

Sims 2

This is a multi-part download:

Special Instructions for downloads:

I. The main .rar file, "CurvyBookcase," has three variants: [FULL], [PETS-FT], and [pre-PETs]. Only download ONE of these variants, as they are duplicates in every way except for the tiny bits of code that determine what EPs they will work with.

A. If your game is basegame only, or your highest EP is UNI or NL or OFB, download the [pre-PETs] variant. Trying to use one of the other two variants without PETs or higher installed will crash your game.

B. The [PETs-FT] variant merely has the animal motives that were added in PETS included. There may be some other features that were added to Sims 2 prior to FT, but I was unable to test this thoroughly.

C. The [FULL] variant uses the interaction tables introduced in FT, and has all the bells and whistles that work great in my full game. Not recommended if you don't have FT or later installed.

II. Once you have determined version is best suited for you, extract the contents into your Downloads folder to install.

III. Download the CurvyBookcase-Deco file and install contents in our Downloads folder as well. Now you have the complete Curvilinear Librarium installed.

IV. All other files are optional, but enthusiastically recommended. Just remember that if you download the Collections file, to extract the packages to the Collections folder, and NOT the Downloads folder.

All I can say is "wow!"-and that this is incredible. Curvy bookcases are awesome!
Thank you for all your hard work!

Playing around with it, I found that one can make a completely enclosed round bookcase (which is quite unique), and that some small objects can be placed on it besides books.
I think I've found my Ideal store shelving that I've been looking for all these years!

Thanks for the nice comments. It's so awesome to work so long on a labor of love like this and be able to share it with folks that appreciate it.

@ jtf04240: Those walls are made with the great Numenor's WallWindows. There is a link to his page in the picture credits. I hardly ever build a lot without making at least one whole room with them. And there are a plethora of recolors for his meshes, so the possibilities are endless.

What a clever idea I hope you don't mind some constructive criticism. The thumbnail picture is not doing you any favors. This is truly creative, a real original creation that at least I haven't seen elsewhere. The profile picture doesn't convey that. I saw the upload, but did not click to look further because I thought it was just a slightly curved bookcase which I did not feel I had a use for. Then someone mentioned making a round bookcase on the forums, and I decided to come take a closer look. Now I realize it's so, so much more than just a slightly curved bookcase. I would swap the thumbnail for one of the pictures where you show a more elaborate bookcase standing in the middle of a room. That way it's more immediately clear that this is no ordinary bookshelf.

Congratulations on managing to fill one of those "I didn't know I needed this but now I realize what a big black void there was"-holes. Really really great creation. Very well deserved pick, and I'd say even featured.

Hi, this set is crashing my game on startup, even on its own, in a clean game. It loads about 75% and crashes or crashes to desktop. I have all EP's and SP's (not Ultimate Collection).

I'm very sorry to hear that. Since I don't have enough information to duplicate your results, let's try a couple of troubleshooting baby steps first. Try these (they may or may not all apply, but can narrow things down.):

1. Make sure you have only one set installed ( full, pre-FT, or pre-pets). In the same vein, please make sure that you do indeed have the PETS EP installed, because that will absolutely crash a game.

2. If you have installed any other CC in the last week or so, take it out of the downloads folder to be sure it's the LIbrarium that's causing the crash.

3. Try using the pre-PETS version, to see if you get better results.

4. In case of possible corruption during download, re-DL the files and try again. (The main set is a pretty hefty file, and could have had a hiccup during download.)

If these things don't work, then I'm gonna guess it's maybe a conflict with some other CC in your game that I don't have. Let me know what does and does not work, and I'll correct things if necessary.

@aparkin85: Right on the money. The sets they use for that show really stick in my head, and that opening scene - well, it's easily in the top 5 of "WTF is going on here?" opening sequences of all time. I took about 40 screenshots of the computer in the farmhouse later in the series. Planning on making some kind of animated screensaver for my Sims's computor. (some day...)

@gummilutt: I vacillated over that for quite a while, actually. Trying to show convoluted shelf configurations resulted in weird angles that were more or less indecipherable in thumbnail form, and direct overhead shots, while showing the neat design pretty well, did not exactly say, " this is a bookshelf." In the end, I opted for the simpler "headshot", that says without question, "here be shelving" and pray that folks click and get blown away by the possibilities inside. Thank you for your comments. I had some pretty neat heart within heart within heart shelves all set for that pic too; for some dumb reason, I deleted it instead of keeping it for an extra pic.

1) I have all of the EP's and SP's and only installed the full set.

2) I did it in a clean game. (That is, no other CC, clean install.)

3) Nope, didn't do anything.

4) Same thing, didn't do anything.

By any chance do you have Ultimate Collection because I don't, I have the disc versions of each game.

Negative on the UC. Most of my game was installed before 2011. Sorry to make you a guinea pig; just a few more things I can think of to do:

a. make sure files are unRARed before putting in Downloads. (not trying to be smart-alec, just covering all bases)

b. use the 50/50 method to find which file is causing the problem, so I can dissect it.

C. try the attached file to see if it works. ( I extracted it directly from the Double Deluxe disc, then added all the changes that are on the full version already uploaded. The only difference I'm aware of is that the BHAVs are formatted differently. Works in my full game, so here's hoping it's successful for you as well.)

EDIT: I'm gonna be out-of-state for a month or two repairing roofs and rebuilding some barns on my family's property, so internet access is gonna be sketchy for while. I see I don't have any patches installed ( I was never big on downloading software to install - I like physical discs). When I get back, I'll reinstall my game with the patches and one way or another we'll get to the bottom of this. Meanwhile, try the stuff above, and PM me if I can help.

(re)EDIT: Replacing the file here with fixes for whole set (excluding the deco). If you downloaded the file that was here before ("newMainLeft'), you will want to replace it with the one in the new .rar file. The original fix file had some missing BCONs and a screwy GUID that will cause your game to crash in buy mode. There is really no need for everyone to download this alternate set. This is just for those who have problems with the [full] set crashing their game.
Download - please read all instructions before downloading any files!
File Type: rar 8007 fixes.rar (4.90 MB, 15 downloads)
Description: all parts fixed for those having crashing problem

b) It seems to be the shelves, the rest of the bits and pieces are fine and load up just great.

c) It seems to be working, thank you so much. Have fun repairing the roofs and barns.

@Goldenbtrfly: you're welcome. and thank you for reminding me to edit the hashtags so people can find the books

Thanks to everyone who have DL'd this set. Of all the mods I've attempted, this is the one of which I'm especially proud, and I really hope you like it. In between other projects, I am still working on updates and improvements for this set, as well as some add-on pieces to make even more bizarre shapes. When everything satisfies me that it will pass for awesome (yeah, no timeline, yet ), I'll update the files.
